Every organisation Onsite IT spoke to at the briefings gave the same answer when asked what AI was running on their Mac devices: they did not know.
For South African organisations, the stakes carry an additional layer. POPIA obligations apply to personal information processed by AI tools regardless of where those tools were procured. Procurement questionnaires are already asking how AI use is governed, and a policy document is no longer a sufficient answer.
